Wilkie latest to blast US refugee deal

Federal independent MP Andrew Wilkie has added his voice to the growing chorus of opposition about Australia's asylum seeker deal with the United States.

President Trump's commitment to take asylum seekers from Manus Island and Nauru is a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute, the Hobart-based politician said.

"Australia continues to have a legal and moral obligation to bring those people to Australia, to hear their claims here and to give them permanent refuge here if their claims are found to be accurate."
