Total fire ban for Tasmania

A total fire ban has been declared for southern Tasmania.

Tasmania Fire Service Chief Fire Officer Mike Brown says conditions forecast on Sunday have led to the state's first-ever total fire ban declared in September.

"Forecasted very strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will very quickly push fire danger ratings well into the "very high" range tomorrow, meaning any fires in the bush will be difficult to control," he said.

"While many paddocks are still green, forecasted areas in the east and south east are really starting to dry off," Mr Brown said.

Areas covered by the ban include Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan/Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman.

Rain is expected late on Sunday afternoon, which is expected to ease the fire risk.
