It's going to be a scorcher across parts of Tasmania and authorities have declared a total fire ban for the state's south.

The centres of New Norfolk and Huonville are forecast to reach 37C and Hobart 33C on Wednesday, and mixed with dry conditions the fire danger rating will reach severe.

Tasmania Fire Service southern region chief Greg Butters has reminded Tasmanians of the significant monetary and custodial penalties imposed for breaching a total fire ban and asked people to take precautions.

"Those who have lit a fire in the last few days (should) ensure that those fires are properly extinguished," he said.
