Tasmanian police probe jetski death

Alcohol and speed may have been factors in a jetski accident that claimed the life of a man in Tasmania's north.

Tasmania Police are awaiting the results of alcohol testing and witness statements to determine the cause of the crash that killed a 22-year-old Launceston man on Monday afternoon.

Two jetskis are understood to have been following each other when the front rider fell off and was hit by the second jetski.

Inspector Michael Johnson on Tuesday said the rider who hit the man gave first aid until ambulance officers arrived, but the man died a short time after arriving at Launceston General Hospital.

Police say it's too early to determine whether charges will be laid, and the man who was riding the second jetski is assisting police.
