Tasmanian dams fill a bit more

A month of steady rain has seen Tasmania's hydro-electric dam levels jump by more than 10 per cent to almost a quarter full.

Capacity fell to 12 per cent in late April but on Monday that level had recovered to 23 per cent as pressure eased on the state government to manage an energy supply crisis brought on by record-low rainfall and a broken Bass Strait electricity cable.

"Over the past week, hydro generation has been augmented by gas generation ... no diesel generation was required," Energy Minister Matthew Groom said in a statement.
