Tasmania will inject its $130 million GST windfall into "job-creating infrastructure", Treasurer Peter Gutwein says.

Tuesday's federal budget didn't hold any surprises for the island state, with the Abbott government standing by its commitment not to change GST distribution.

Maintaining the status quo netted Tasmania $130 million in additional revenue in 2015-16, and Mr Gutwein says that money will be spent on "job-creating infrastructure".

"The value is going to be felt long after the money is spent," Mr Gutwein told reporters on Thursday.

More detail would be provided when the state government hands down its own budget in a couple of weeks, with particular focus given to Tasmania's north, Mr Gutwein said.
