Tas senator calls for islands to team up

Tasmanian Greens senator Nick McKim will make a call for action to leaders of the world's islands, who he says can play a vital role in forecasting and solving significant environmental issues.

Senator McKim is travelling to South Korea to deliver a keynote address at a conference which hopes to lay the groundwork for an `Island 20' to parallel the G20, and give islands a voice in important economic decisions.

"Islands, including those in our region, are already confronting issues of energy sufficiency, global warming and resultant sea-level rise and extreme weather events," Senator McKim said.

He added that his home state of Tasmania could share ideas and benefit from others advice.
