A woman with lengthy local government and state parliament experience has been appointed the commissioner of southern Tasmania's Huon Valley Council after the elected representatives were sacked by the state government.

Adriana Taylor was on Friday named as the person to lead the council for at least a year, after the removal of all nine councillors due to months of infighting.

"Commissioner Taylor has the skills, knowledge and experience to provide the stability and certainty that the Huon Valley Council needs," Local Government Minister Peter Gutwein said, citing her six years as a city mayor and six years as a member of the state's upper house.
