The Tasmanian government will contribute $2 million towards a proposed aquaculture feed mill in the state's north, which expects to create more than 20 new jobs.

The Australian Stock Exchange-listed company Ridley is planning a $50 million development at Westbury manufacturing and supplying feed to interstate and New Zealand buyers and on Friday Building and Construction Minister Guy Barnett said the state Liberal government is on board.

"Once operational, the mill will directly provide upwards of 20 full-time equivalent jobs, plus more indirectly, and inject about $21 million a year into the local economy," he said.
