A volunteer firefighter charged with arson over a blaze which badly damaged a Tasmanian station and destroyed two trucks will face court next month.

The Liberal government has pledged to rebuild the Middleton station south of Hobart after it suffered $600,000 damage at the weekend.

Police on Tuesday charged the 28-year-old, who will appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on August 21.

He also faces a charge of attempted arson, with police alleging he also tried to set the station on fire the previous weekend.

A statement from the Tasmania Fire Service said the man had been suspended from the Middleton Volunteer Fire Brigade.
