Tasmanian police are delivering a different road safety message: beware of the devils.

A group of 33 Tassie devils, raised in captivity as part of a program to save the endangered species from a deadly facial tumor disease, will be released into the wild in the state's north on Tuesday and authorities are trying to prevent a repeat of last time when 11 of the creatures quickly became road kill.

"We know that the first two-to-four weeks after release are a particularly vulnerable time for the devils while they are working out where they are and dispersing away from the release site," devil researcher Samantha Fox said on Friday.
