Tas cop to face court over assault claim

A Tasmanian police officer has been taken off the beat and is due to face court after allegedly assaulting a person while on duty.

The 38-year-old from the state's northwest is alleged to have committed the assault when responding to an incident in June 2016.

"The charge arises from an internal investigation that was conducted following a complaint from a member of the public," police said in a statement issued on Wednesday, adding that the officer will face Burnie Magistrates Court on April 11.
