Stolen war memorial bayonet recovered

Police are closing in on the crooks who removed a bayonet from a war memorial in northwest Tasmania.

The item, taken last week at the same time a car tyre was placed over a soldier statue at the Devonport clock tower, has been recovered, investigators said on Monday.

"Police are following a specific line of inquiry in relation to the people responsible," Sergeant Gary Williams said.
