Premier sorry for parliamentary comment

Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman has apologised to the state's opposition leader, who he told to "slit his wrists" during parliament.

The remark, aimed at Labor leader Bryan Green, was picked up by parliament's audio stream on Tuesday and has been widely reported by media.

"In the heat of the moment these things occur," Mr Hodgman said later, as reported by Fairfax.

"The usual rough and tumble of parliament often causes all members of the place to say things they perhaps shouldn't and this is one such occasion."
