A coronial inquest is due to resume into the death of a rally driver killed when he crashed his Porsche at high speed during an event in Tasmania.

John Ernest Mansell, 71, from Newcastle in NSW, died in April 2013 while competing in Targa Tasmania.

When coroner Simon Cooper opened his investigation in May, evidence included a toxicology report showing Mr Mansell had alcohol in his system when the Porsche left the road travelling at more than 200km/h and smashed into a tree.
