Peter Slipper issued Tas law certificate

Former federal parliamentary Speaker Peter Slipper could be headed to Tasmania to work as a lawyer.

The 67-year-old who was a Liberal National MP for the Queensland seat of Fisher for two decades, stepped down after facing claims of misusing parliamentary entitlements and the sexual harassment of a staff member - allegations of which he was later cleared.

"The Law Society of Tasmania confirms that it issued a barrister practising certificate to Mr Peter Slipper," society president Rohan Foon said in a brief statement issued on Friday.
