New Tas electoral boundaries needed: AEC

One of Tasmania's federal political electorates is at risk of failing to meet the minimum population requirement, says the Australian Electoral Commission as it considers boundary changes to the state's seats.

The Commission's redistribution committee has decided to retain the names of Bass, Braddon, Denison, Lyons and Franklin, but has recommended a series of boundary changes impacting all but the latter seat, due to population and enrolment rates.

"The status quo cannot be maintained, because without boundary adjustment, electoral enrolment in the Division of Braddon will become comparatively too small and in the Division of Franklin too large," committee chairman Tom Rogers said in a statement on Friday, calling for public feedback on the proposed changes.
