A TIMELINE OF THE SUSAN NEILL-FRASER CASE

2009

January 27 - Bob Chappell, 65, is reported missing from the couple's yacht found sinking in the River Derwent in Sandy Bay off Hobart.

August 20 - Susan Neill-Fraser is arrested and charged with Mr Chappell's murder, pleading not guilty a day later.

2010

September 21 - Murder trial begins in Hobart Supreme Court.

October 15 - The jury delivers a guilty verdict after 18 hours of deliberation, finding Neill-Fraser murdered Mr Chappell on Australia Day, 2009.

October 27 - Neill-Fraser sentenced to 26 years' jail.

November - Neill-Fraser launches an appeal against her murder conviction and the length of her sentence.

2012

March 6 - Neill-Fraser's appeal is dismissed but her sentence gets cut to 23 years, with 13 years' non-parole.

September - Neill-Fraser loses a bid to appeal her conviction in the High Court of Australia.

2014

January - A coroner finds Neill-Fraser was responsible for Mr Chappell's death.

2016

February - Neill-Fraser begins a bid for another appeal under legislation, passed in 2015, that requires her to convince a judge there is "fresh and compelling" evidence.

2017

August - Three people are charged over interference with the appeal bid, including a witness and someone who worked as part of Neil-Fraser's legal team.

October 30 - Meaghan Vass, whose DNA was found on the yacht, denies in court being onboard the boat despite signing an affidavit in April saying she was.

2019

March 14 - Neill-Fraser's application to appeal is re-opened to include a new affidavit from Ms Vass about her whereabouts the night of the murder.

March 21 - Justice Michael Brett grants Neill-Fraser leave to appeal her murder conviction, telling the court Ms Vass's new affidavit states she was present on the yacht on the relevant night.
