MONA empty for Instagram

In an Australian first, Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art has hosted #emptymona, giving a select group of Instagrammers exclusive access to the exhibition space and its world-famous installations.

Held after hours on Thursday, a group of about 30 social media gurus toured MONA while it was empty of its usual crowds, capturing images and footage which they distributed to a global following on the social media site Instagram.

It's the first time a #emptymuseum event has been held in Australasia.

The concept originated in the US and has been adopted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim in New York, the Louvre in Paris, and London's Tate Modern and Royal Opera House.
