Two men have escaped injury when a small aircraft on a training flight was forced to land without wheels near Hobart Airport.

After realising there was a problem with the aircraft's landing gear early on Friday afternoon, the plane circled Cambridge Airport to burn off fuel before landing safely.

"On landing no persons were injured ... the instructor landed the plane," police Senior Sergeant Sally Cottrell said, adding that the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the matter.
