A young driver has been charged with manslaughter after a teenage girl was killed when a car drove off a cliff in western Tasmania.

The car crashed at Strahan on October 3, ejecting backseat passenger Chloe Michelle Walsh, 15, who died at the scene.

Two other passengers in the vehicle - a 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy - were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver was treated for minor injuries.

On Wednesday police charged the driver, a 20-year-old man from Strahan, with manslaughter, two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and a raft of traffic offences.

He has been granted bail to appear at Burnie Magistrate's Court on a date to be confirmed.
