Man to face court over Tas stand-off
A man will face court on a string of charges including firearm offences after a police stand-off that lasted almost two days.
Officers were called to a home in suburban Newnham, Launceston, on Monday following reports a man had taken a woman and two children hostage.
They were released a short time later but the street remained in lockdown as negotiations continued with the man.
The stand-off ended at 3am on Wednesday with the 35-year-old taken into custody.
"It will be alleged that after the arrest police located a loaded .22 calibre revolver in the residence," police said in a statement.
The man has been charged with drug and firearm offences and resisting police.
He is due to face Launceston Magistrates Court on Thursday.
