Man dead after King Island smash

An elderly man has died in a head-on smash on Tasmania's King Island.

The 79-year-old driver of a Daihatsu sedan was rushed to hospital after the collision on Grassy Road at Currie about 1pm on Monday but died about two hours later.

"Preliminary investigations indicate the blue Daihatsu sedan has crossed on to the incorrect side of the road impacting with the silver Subaru," police said, adding that the 61-year-old woman driving the Subaru was not injured.
