Labor plan for Tas public transport

Tasmania's Labor opposition has drafted a decade-long public transport plan including an integrated ticketing system and $14 million to kick-start a Hobart light-rail service, which in combination the party claims will boost passenger numbers by 50 per cent.

The plan, detailed on Monday by transport spokesman Craig Farrell more than 18 months away from the next state election, spends $58 million on a range of bus and rail ideas, concession benefits and the development of a Passenger Transport Corporation, as part of an idea already criticised by the government as being a "thought bubble".

"Labor will bring our public transport sector into the 21st century with real-time information and bus stop digital displays," Mr Farrell said, adding that the plan is yet to be costed by treasury.
