Improved Tas road stats for Easter day one

The number of speeding tickets issued on day one of Tasmania's Easter road safety campaign has almost halved compared to 2015, police say.

Statistics collected from Thursday show 81 speeding infringement notices compared to 142 on day one the previous year, with an overall drop in infringements from 255 to 113 across the same period, including inattentive driving and mobile phone use, acting inspector Stewart Williams said on Friday.

"Clearly, however, the statistics indicate motorists are still committing offences on our roads and these have the potential to cause crashes and risk life," he said, adding there had been no fatal or serious crashes.
