Hobart pub robbed at gunpoint

A masked armed robber is on the run after an early morning heist at a Hobart pub.

Police say a man with a covered face demanded money from staff at the Elwick Hotel at Glenorchy shortly before 3am on Monday.

The robber may have been driving a stolen red Suburu which was later found burnt out at a nearby suburb.

"The firearm produced by the man is also distinctive with a torch attached to the barrel and a strap clipped to it," Detective Inspector Craig Joel said

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
