An inmate who escaped from Hobart's Risdon Prison is due to face court on Tuesday on charges including assaulting a teenage boy while on the run.
Marcus Denis Mayne, 27, has been charged with assault, escaping custody, aggravated burglary, stealing, and destroying property after slipping beneath a closing roller door at the jail's minimum security section on Monday.
Police allege Mayne took a large carving knife from the prison kitchen where he was working, and was caught after swimming out to a yacht moored on the Derwent River in a getaway attempt.
