Hobart will play host to visiting international parliamentary leaders, who are expected in the southern capital along with some Australian federal politicians.

Lower house Speaker Tony Smith and Senate President Stephen Parry will on Thursday accompany a delegation of their counterparts from Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey.

"Traditionally, the national capital or bigger cities would be identified as host, but I wanted to ensure my home state was the host," Senator Parry said.

The group held its first meeting in South Korea in 2015 after being formed in 2013 as a consultative forum designed to advance common interests.

The group will have their official talks at Hobart's parliament house before paying a visit to Government House and making a trip to the Port Arthur Historic Site.
