Fire rips through Launceston house

A fire has ripped though a house in suburban Launceston.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Newnham about 2am on Sunday to find the house engulfed in flames.

They put out the fire but extensive damage was already done to the dining, lounge and kitchen areas.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
