Escape sparks jail security upgrade

Hobart's Risdon Prison needs better security according to a report into a recent escape.

On September 28 minimum security inmate Marcus Denis Mayne took a knife from the prison kitchen where he was working and fled under a closing roller door, leading police on a two-hour manhunt which ended at gun point as he tried to get away by stealing a yacht moored in a nearby bay.

Corrections Minister Vanessa Goodwin on Thursday said some security changes have already been made at the prison and more will come following the report.

"For obvious reasons it is not appropriate to release reports detailing the specifics of prison security measures," she said.
