Dogs dead after Tasmanian car fire

Two dogs have been killed in a northwest Tasmanian car fire, police say.

The shar pei and Staffordshire bull terrier were sleeping in the car - as was usual for them - at Burnie on Friday when the fire broke out about 4am (AEDT).

"It's not clear at this stage what the cause of the fire was and that's what the investigation will determine," Tasmania Police acting Sergeant Scott Poke said.
