Charges over mine deaths adjourned

The operators of a Tasmanian copper mine charged over the deaths of three workers in two incidents say the welfare of the victims' families remain the priority as the matters were adjourned in court.

Copper Mines of Tasmania was represented in Burnie Magistrates Court on Tuesday on two counts of failing to comply with health and safety requirements, linked to the 2013 deaths of Craig Gleeson, 45, and Alistair Lucas, 25, and a third man, 53, just weeks later.

"We recognise that hearings of this nature are very difficult times for families and friends of the deceased and we want to support them as much as we can," the company's site manager Jared DeRoss said in a statement after the matters were adjourned until June.
