Case dropped against second protester

Police will not proceed with the prosecution of a second person charged under Tasmania's controversial anti-protest laws, in a move described as disappointing by the state government.

Police withdrew a case against fellow protester Jessica Hoyt on Friday, arrested in January at northern Tasmania's Lapoinya forest with former Greens leader Bob Brown.

Dr Brown was informed in May that a charge against him would be dropped.

"Obviously this is disappointing, but as the police have advised it is based on purely technical matters," Forestry Minister Peter Gutwein said.
