Lucille Butterworth murder inquest set to wrap up

An inquest into the 1969 disappearance and suspected murder of Hobart woman Lucille Butterworth is drawing to a close.

Coroner Simon Cooper has heard several weeks of evidence into the circumstances which saw the then 20-year-old typist and model vanish from a suburban bus stop.

He is expected to retire on Thursday to hand down findings at a future date.

Prime suspect Geoffrey Charles Hunt on Wednesday completed his third day of evidence during which he insisted he had nothing to do with Ms Butterworth's disappearance, although admitted his memory of the 1960s and 1970s is not clear.

Police Inspector David Plumpton said investigators still want to hear from anyone who may have new information about the case.

"The investigation remains open until such a time as we find a body or someone is charged," he told reporters.
