Bushfire assistance for Tas councils

The federal government will pitch in to help Tasmanian councils rebuild infrastructure lost during a devastating summer bushfire season.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan on Tuesday said eligible local government areas can apply for assistance through the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, and did not put a cap on the funding.

"The Commonwealth government is committed to continuing to help Tasmania through what has been one of its worst bushfire seasons to ensure residents and businesses have the support they need to recover as quickly as possible," the minister said in a statement.
