Bunnings timber only from Tas coups

Hardware giant Bunnings will refuse to stock timber sourced from Tasmanian forests currently protected from logging, but opened to harvesting under a state government plan.

In a letter tabled to parliament on Wednesday managing director Michael Schneider cited Bunning's "longstanding commitment to pursue sustainability" as he explained the decision, in response to the Hodgman government's plan to open an extra 356,000 hectares of wilderness to logging.

"Our Tasmanian suppliers have advised us that they will not be sourcing our timber from outside their existing forest coups," Mr Schneider wrote in the letter dated March 16.
