Budget spend on Tas tourism training

Tasmania's government plans to create a "centre of excellence" to train the state's future tourism and hospitality workers, with a $3.2 million pledge in the coming budget.

Hobart's Drysdale has long been the state's TAFE base for aspiring hospitality workers and the funding will allow for a broader range of training options, while new video conferencing facilities will enable training for people in rural and regional areas.

"Drysdale will help to address the current skills shortage in the industry and ensure tourism and hospitality training is flexible, responsive and consistent with what business is looking for," Premier Will Hodgman said on Thursday.
