Lucille Butterworth disappeared in 1969.

John Fitzgerald, the boyfriend of Hobart woman Lucille Butterworth at the time she disappeared in 1969, will give evidence at an inquest into her suspected murder on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old platinum blonde beauty queen contestant has not been seen since she was dropped at a bus stop on August 25, 1969, on her way to meet Mr Fitzgerald at his home town of New Norfolk, northwest of Hobart.

An inquest into her disappearance has been told she probably accepted a lift from someone she knew, after fearing she missed her bus, and was killed later that day.

Geoffrey Charles Hunt has been named as a person of interest in the case.

He used to live across the road from Mr Fitzgerald and was later jailed for the 1976 murder of Hobart car saleswoman Susan Knight, 24.

Coroner Simon Cooper is overseeing the inquest, which is scheduled to go for four weeks.
