Bearded man robs Hobart department store

A bearded man who had no luck robbing a bank in Hobart has managed to getaway with all the money from a nearby department store's cash register.

The man entered the Westpac branch at Moonah just before 1.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday and unsuccessfully demanded cash before dashing to a nearby Harris Scarfe store where his request for money proved more fruitful.

Police say the man, aged about 40 with a salt-and-pepper beard and slim build, stole all the money from the shop's cash register and that he appeared to have no weapon during the robbery.
