Tasmania's government says there will be no forced redundancies as it moves to cut waste in the management of police and emergency operations.

Independent auditors have been hired to examine the support systems at the Department of Police and Emergency Management (DPEM) and eliminate duplication.

The department includes Tasmania Police, the Tasmania Fire Service, the State Emergency Service and Forensic Science Service Tasmania.

DPEM secretary Darren Hine said on friday each arm has operational independence but there is a lot of commonality in the support services required.

He said even at this early stage the government had ruled out forced redundancies.
