Alleged wife killer stays in Tas custody

Accused of murdering his wife in the Tasmanian wilderness, Robin Michael will spend at least another month in custody after facing a magistrate.

The 63-year old from Adelaide faced Devonport Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was ordered to reappear on March 17.

He did not enter a plea but will be required to do so on the next occasion, a court spokeswoman told AAP.

Police allege Michael killed his wife, 44-year-old Kerry Michael, last Wednesday as the couple bushwalked at Mt Rowland in Tasmania's north.

Her body was found by a search and rescue helicopter on a trail a short distance from the summit the next day.

Investigators say the couple had spent several weeks caravanning throughout Tasmania before her death.

Michael was charged with murder on Friday and faced court briefly to be refused bail.

He will now remain in custody until his next court listing, which is likely to be via video link.
