Two men from on board an alleged foreign drug-smuggling boat have been remanded in custody after facing court in Hobart.

The 50-metre vessel was escorted into the southern capital on Friday by the navy and Australian Border Force on suspicion of smuggling.

On Monday Heng Ma, 37, and Peng Wu, 28, both from China, faced Hobart Magistrates Court each charged with attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug between December 1 and 7.

Neither entered a plea and will make their next court appearance on January 13.

Authorities have previously said there was a crew of 10 on the boat but have not revealed the type or quantity of drug involved.
