Tas cop accused of assaulting taxi driver

A Tasmanian police officer has been charged after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver in Hobart.
The 34-year-old constable was off duty when he allegedly struck the cab driver at Howrah in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The taxi driver suffered facial abrasions in the incident.

The officer, from Glebe Hill, has been charged with assault and was granted bail to appear at Hobart Magistrates Court next month.
Police will decide on Monday whether the officer will be stood down.
