Human remains discovered north of Taree

Human remains have been discovered north of Taree in NSW during a routine firefighting operation.

A crew from the Rural Fire Service was extinguishing a small blaze  in the Yarratt State Forest, 20 kilometres north of Taree, when the remains were found in bushland.

Police from Manning-Great Lakes Police District were called to the scene and have initiated an investigation.

It is understood the remains are believed to be those of an adult.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity and the cause of death.
