Taleb found not guilty over drowning

A man has been found not guilty of the drowning death of a young man in Sydney's Darling Harbour.

Jason Daep, 19, drowned in the inner-city party precinct of Cockle Bay in 2012 after a night out with friends.

Ehab Taleb, 24, was charged with his manslaughter.

After almost two days of deliberations, a jury found Taleb not guilty on Thursday.

Taleb's trial in the Downing Centre District Court had heard CCTV footage showed Taleb "pursuing the deceased" along the foreshore.

But the cameras missed the moment in which Taleb had been accused of pushing Mr Daep into the harbour.

Taleb did not comment as he left court but his lawyer said he felt happy and relieved.

Lawyer Philip Stewart said the ordeal had been unnecessary.

"There was evidence from the start there was a blond male who punched the deceased into the water," he told AAP.

"My client is not a blond male."

Taleb has pleaded guilty to an affray charge arising from the same night.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
