Australian former champ charged with 'corrupt bets' on Ukrainian table tennis

A former international table tennis star has been arrested in Newcastle and charged in connection with an alleged international syndicate that placed bets on fixed matches.

Adam Green was arrested by police at his home this morning.

Police allege the former star sent money to associates in Ukraine connected to the country's table tennis circuit, which was still playing matches duing the pandemic.

At the same time, police allege, Mr Green made bets with Australian bookies using his name and those of at least eight associates on the same matches.

Police claimed the syndicate made more than half a million dollars from the alleged corrupt bets.

The investigation is continuing. 9News

Mr Green, 40, was charged with use corrupt conduct information to bet on event and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on January 28 next year.
