Twenty residents evacuated after Sydney apartment fire

Twenty residents in an apartment building in Sydney's east were evacuated after the top-level unit of a five-storey building caught fire.

Around 8pm last night, more than 20 firelighters were called to the Dowling St apartment complex in Woolloomooloo.

Crews were confronted by thick smoke and flames but managed to contain the blaze quickly.

Police and paramedics were also called to the scene but thankfully no one was seriously injured.

Two people were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
