Western Sydney woman charged after allegedly neglecting new born baby

Powered by

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested, accused of neglecting a seven-week-old baby.

Concerns were raised in April, when the infant, from Dundas in Sydney’s west, was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and presented with ongoing seizures.

Doctors told police the boy will be left with permanent disabilities, after suffering brain, eye and spinal cord injuries.

A strike force involving detectives from the Child Abuse squad was formed, to investigate how the child came to be so severely injured.

They arrested the woman yesterday morning, before taking her to Granville police station for questioning.

Detectives will allege the child had been suffering from seizures for at least 24 hours before the woman sought medical attention.

She’s been charged, released on bail and will appear at Parramatta court on July 17.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say more charges could be laid.
