Sydney to host ASEAN leaders

Sydney will host leaders from 11 South East Asian nations next month.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has invited the Association of South East Asia Nations leaders to Australia for a special summit.

"This summit provides an important forum to discuss how we can continue to make our region safer and more prosperous," Mr Turnbull and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said in a joint statement.

As well as a leaders' summit and retreat there will be side events for business leaders and counter-terrorism experts.
