Sydney Sixers blow Hobart Hurricanes away in Big Bash

Hobart's star imports have failed to deliver with the Sydney Sixers beating the Hurricanes by seven wickets in the Big Bash League clash at Bellerive Oval.

Despite a valiant innings from the host skipper George Bailey (71 off 44) to reach a total of 154, the Sixers proved too strong, reaching 3-158 with five balls to spare.

The Sixers cruised to victory with Moises Henriques unbeaten on 29 from 25 balls while Jordan Silk finished unbeaten on 31 off 23 deliveries.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat after a brief rain delay Briton Alex Hales (one off four) was dismissed in the first over.

His total was one more than his contribution to the scoreboard last round, when the Hurricanes beat the Melbourne Stars.

And after smashing 38 not out from just 12 balls on Saturday, star Darren Sammy (two) was caught attempting one of his trademark big hits.

Brett Lee (3-33) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors while Michael Lumb starred with the bat for the Sixers, hitting 44 off 31 in front of 13,140 fans.

Hobart was "a little bit off" with the ball, Bailey said after the match.

And on a batting front he think's his own form is "almost there" while Hales' luck will soon change.

"He will be fine. He's a quality player," Bailey said.

For the Sixers, Tuesday's victory makes it two wins from two rounds to be second on the Big Bash ladder.

Captain and man of the match Moises Henriques, who also took 2-22 with the ball, praised his teammates including big-hitter Nic Maddinson (29 off 12).

It was another strong showing from Maddinson, who is backing up from his first round performance of 84 not out off 54.

"I'm just glad that he's starting to show everyone in Australia what he can actually achieve," Henriques said of Maddinson.

The next round sees the Sixers play cross-town rivals the Sydney Thunder on Saturday.

"It's probably the most important game of the season so far," Henriques said of the upcoming clash.

"We take that game very seriously obviously with the rivalry ... we'll be very well prepared."
